Banana-Ice Cream, (Musa acuminata 'Blue Java'), 10"

A sought-after variety of banana for culinary uses, the blue java or ice cream banana tree bears medium-sized fruits that have a blue tinged peel on the outside and bright white interiors with black seeds. The lush foliage is bright green and semi-drooping. While these trees grow to 20' feet outdoors, they are not cold hardy in Kansas so you'll need to bring this one indoors to overwinter. After the first frost of the season, cut back to just above the soil and place the pot in a cool, dark room for the winter. Water sparingly in this dormant state. The plant will likely grow 5-8' tall at maximum each season.
