  • Native to Australia, Myrmecodia beccarii is an epiphytic plant that grows on the sides of spongy trees rather than in soil. It's known as the ant plant because the prickly stems develop holes in them, which are then colonized by local ants. In return for shelter, the ants protect the plant from predators and provide fertilizer nutrients. But don't worry; ants won't come inside your home to seek out this plant--unless you happen to live in a tree in Australia!

    Potted in a 4" container.

Water when soil surface is dry to the touch. Prefers high humidity.
