Staghorn ferns have two different types of fronds: the large antler-shaped ones that lend the plant its name, and the hard rounded shield fronds that grow at the base of the plant. Because these plants are epiphytic (they grow up the sides of trees rather than in soil in nature), their shield fronds have evolved to cover and protect the root ball. 'Netherlands' is distinguished by its compact bushy habit compared to other staghorn ferns.
Potted in a 4" container.
Basket: water weekly by running the entire basket under the faucet or shower with room temperature water. The moss should stay consistently moist but not soggy.
Mounted: once weekly, soak mount in room temperature water until fully saturated.
Pot: water when medium feels dry to the touch; about once every 1-2 weeks.
Prefers high humidity; put it near a humidifier or grow in a bathroom. Do not remove any brown shields.
