Staghorn Fern

  • Details
  • Staghorn ferns have two different types of fronds: the large antler-shaped ones that lend the plant its name, and the hard rounded shield fronds that grow at the base of the plant. Because these plants are epiphytic (they grow up the sides of trees rather than in soil in nature), their shield fronds have evolved to cover and protect the root ball.
